2. Spell Damage: What It Is and Why It Matters
Spell Damage increases the raw damage of spells. The higher your spell damage, the more damage your spells will do, and this is crucial for elemental builds that focus on dealing huge amounts of fire, cold, or lightning damage. Spell damage affects not only your core spells but also any spell-based damage over time, such as Ignite, Freeze, and Poison.
Benefits of Spell Damage
Increased Raw Damage Output: Spell damage directly scales the damage of all your spells. For instance, if you’re casting Fireball, Arc, or Firestorm, increasing your spell damage will result in higher base damage for each spell hit, leading to POE currency much higher total damage over time.
Synergy with Ailments: For DoT (Damage over Time) builds, particularly those using elemental spells that cause Ignite (fire), Freeze (cold), or Shock (lightning), spell damage boosts not just the initial hit of the spell, but also the subsequent ailment damage. For instance, if you cast a Fireball and it ignites the target, increasing your spell damage will also increase the damage the enemy takes from the Ignite over time.
Elemental Scaling: Many builds rely on scaling elemental damage types, such as Fire Damage, Cold Damage, or Lightning Damage. These are all part of the Spell Damage pool, so increasing your overall spell damage also boosts these specific damage types. If you’re using a skill like Flameblast or Arctic Breath, increasing spell damage will significantly boost its effectiveness.
Multiplier Effects: Spell damage also scales well with other damage multipliers, including Critical Strike Multiplier and Elemental Damage with Spells. This means that even small increases in spell damage can have a large effect when combined with other sources of damage multiplication.
How to Increase Spell Damage
Passive Tree: The passive tree offers numerous Spell Damage clusters that enhance all types of spell damage, regardless of whether you’re using fire, cold, or lightning spells. Look for clusters near the Witch, Templar, and Shadow regions that provide either generic spell damage or elemental-specific spell bonuses.
Items: Spellcasting weapons like wands, staves, and sceptres can provide significant boosts to buy POE2 Currency spell damage. Additionally, gear like amulets, rings, and belts can offer Spell Damage mods. Look for items with increased spell damage and elemental damage modifiers.
Skill Gems: Some skill gems, like Spell Echo and Increased Spell Damage, offer direct boosts to spellcasting power. These are often used in conjunction with your main damage-dealing skill for maximum efficiency.
Ascendancies and Buffs: Some ascendancy classes, such as Elementalist or Occultist, offer substantial increases to Spell Damage either by providing flat bonuses or conditional buffs based on specific interactions. For example, Elementalist's Elemental Overload passive grants a damage boost when you don’t crit, enhancing your damage output.
Flasks: Dying Sun Flask or Divine Flask can provide boosts to Elemental Spell Damage, which can significantly amplify your spellcasting during key moments in fights.
